UK residence test for tax purposes
08 July 2013
The HMRC has helpfully published an online aid which can be used free of charge to test whether an individual is resident in the UK for tax purposes. While the new UK laws on residence are clearer than the previous position, there are still some areas where the unwary can inadvertantly become UK resident due to personal circumstances. The online guide can be completed on an anonymous basis by using a pseudonym like AN Other.
Whilst there is no substitute for professional advice, this aid may well cause you to consider if you need advice or not.
You can access the aid here http://tools.hmrc.gov.uk/rift/screen/SRT+-+Combined/en-GB/summary?user=guest
