Contribution to Age Concern Jersey
BKS have donated £300 to Age Concern Jersey to support their appeal for funds to provide lunch to the 300 senior citizens who were in Jersey at the time of the Liberation of the Island on 9th May 1945. Jersey’s Liberation came two days after the German forces surrendered in Europe. All of Jersey’s inhabitants endured shortage of food and other supplies for many years during the Occupation. Relief from starvation finally arrived for the locals a few days after Christmas 1944 when the SS Vega delivered Red Cross parcels to the island. The Occupying Forces on the island were not allowed to benefit from the Red Cross parcels. Winston Churchill commenting on the Channel Island’s liberation said, “our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today”, Sadly, in current times, UK politicians seldom speak so affectionately about the Channel Islands although holiday makers and business visitors still do!
BKS raised the funds for this donation by selling cakes made by our staff to our neighbours in New Street. We would like to thank the staff of Davies Ingram, Standard Chartered Bank, Vistra, IK Investment Partners, Pearl Poetry and Vestra, for their generous support.
